Historical revisionism

history Maturity 11-13 Next article →

History is the story of our past. But stories can change. This is called historical revisionism. It happens when experts find new facts. They might find old papers in a government office. They might find new tools to study old bones. These new things help us make history more accurate.

For example, new files about a project called ULTRA were found. These files helped people learn more about early computers. Scientists also use DNA to study the past. This can show us how people lived long ago.

Sometimes, history is written from a specific view. Different countries might tell different stories about a war. This can happen because of pride in their own nation.

There is also a bad way to change history. This is called negationism. People use this to deny things that really happened. They might lie about big events like the Holocaust. This is not real history. Real history uses facts to find the truth. It does not use lies to hide it.
