He is best known for creating the Final Fantasy series. This series changed how people play stories on computers and consoles. Sakaguchi also helped lead the team for the game Chrono Trigger. He worked as a producer on the hit game Final Fantasy VII. His work has helped shape the world of video games for many years. People admire him for his ability to build huge, magical worlds.

Sakaguchi's journey into gaming was quite unexpected. As a young student, he actually wanted to be a musician. He played the piano and the folk guitar in a band. While studying computer science at Yokohama National University, he fell in love with a game called Wizardry. This changed his path toward programming and design. He even bought a computer to practice his new skills. This interest led him to a part-time job at a new company called Square in 1983.

His career at Square saw many big changes and successes. In 1986, Square became an independent company. Sakaguchi became a full-time employee and a leader there. He wanted to make a role-playing game, which is a type of game where players go on long adventures. Many people at the company did not believe in his idea at first. He named his project Final Fantasy to show his true feelings. The game sold 400,000 units in Japan and became a massive success.

Even great creators face very hard times. Sakaguchi tried to make a movie called Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. This was his first time acting as a film director. The movie cost $137 million to make, but it did not earn much money at the theaters. This failure was a very difficult moment for Sakaguchi and his company. It caused him to feel discouraged about his work. Eventually, he decided to leave Square in 2003 to start fresh.

Today, Sakaguchi works through his own studio called Mistwalker.

He continues to show us that creativity can always find a new path.
