These trains use special tracks to move very quickly. They are much faster than old, traditional trains. Many people call them bullet trains. This is because they often have a pointy nose.

The first system was the Tōkaidō Shinkansen. It began working in Japan in 1964. Since then, many other countries have built their own lines. Italy, France, Germany, and Spain all made them. Today, China has a very big network. In fact, China has over two-thirds of the world's high-speed rail.

Building these lines is hard and costs a lot of money. The tracks must have large curves and gentle slopes. This helps the trains stay safe at high speeds. Some groups say a train is high-speed if it goes at least 250 km/h. Others use different rules. For example, the European Union says trains must reach 200 km/h. High-speed rail is a very efficient way to move people between big cities.
