Long ago, a leader named Hiawatha lived. He was a great speaker. He helped many tribes join together.

He worked with a man called the Peacemaker. The Peacemaker wanted peace. But a mean leader caused much trouble. This leader even hurt Hiawatha's family.

Hiawatha felt very sad. He used pretty shells to help him heal. He then helped the tribes make laws.

These laws helped the tribes live in peace. They made a group called the Iroquois. They used a special belt to show they were one.
