Heliconia

life science Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Heliconia are plants with bright flowers.

They grow in warm, wet forests. Most live in the Americas. Some live on islands too.

These plants have long leaves. Some look like lobster claws.

The flowers can be red, orange, or yellow. They have sweet food inside.

Small birds love to eat this food. These birds help the plants grow. Some plants even use bats to help them.

A small white bat lives here. It uses the leaves for a home. The bat makes a leaf look like a tent. This keeps the bat safe from rain and sun.

These plants are very special to the forest.
