Heat stroke is a serious illness. It happens when the body gets too hot. This can happen from high heat outside. It can also happen from hard work.

There are two main types. One type is called classic heatstroke. This often happens to older people in summer. Their skin may feel dry. The other type is exertional heatstroke. This happens to people who work or exercise hard. These people may sweat a lot.

Heat stroke can cause many problems. It can lead to confusion or dizziness. It can also cause seizures. If not treated, it can harm organs like the kidneys. This is a medical emergency.

To stay safe, drink plenty of fluids. Do not wait until you feel thirsty. You can check your hydration by looking at your urine. Dark yellow urine may mean you need more water. Also, wear light and loose clothes.

If someone has heat stroke, they need to cool down fast. Doctors may use ice water to cool the body. They might also use fans and cool water sprays. This helps the body get back to a safe temperature.
