Haskell is a special way to talk to computers.

People use it for school and for work. It is a functional language. This means it uses math to solve problems. Most functions in Haskell do not have side effects. A side effect is when a task changes something else by mistake. Haskell keeps things neat to help avoid these errors.

Haskell has a very smart system. It uses type classes. These are sets of rules that help the computer understand different kinds of data. It also uses lazy evaluation. This is a way of working where the computer waits to do a task until it is truly needed. This can save power and time.

A group of people worked together to make Haskell an open standard. This means anyone can use it. One main tool used to run Haskell is the Glasgow Haskell Compiler. We call this GHC for short. GHC is very fast. It can run on many different types of computers. There are also over 5,400 tools and libraries that people have made for Haskell. These help people do even more with the language.
