Libertarianism is a way of thinking about politics and freedom. Browne believed in personal liberty and a very small government. He thought people should be able to make their own choices. He also wanted people to work together by choice rather than by force. This idea shaped almost everything he did in his life.

Browne spent many years helping people manage their money through investing. He created a special way to save money called the "permanent portfolio." This plan was designed to work during four different types of economic times. It aimed to help people make money when things were good. It also tried to protect them when the economy changed. He taught many classes about the art of living well and being successful.

His career began with service in the United States Army. He joined the Army on May 5, 1953. He went to California to study cryptography, which is the science of secret codes. Later, he was sent to the Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. He also served in Eniwetok to finish his time in the military. He left active service in 1956 and was fully discharged in 1961.

As an author, Browne wrote 12 different books. His books sold more than 2 million copies in total. One famous book was titled "How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World." He also ran for President of the United States twice. He was the nominee for the Libertarian Party in 1996 and 2000. In 1996, he received 485,798 votes from the American people. In 2000, he received 384,516 votes.

In his later years, Browne stayed very busy with many different projects. He hosted two weekly radio shows on the Genesis Communications Network. One show was about politics and the other was about money. He also helped start a group called the Downsize DC Foundation. He loved to learn and owned over 400 books. He died in Franklin, Tennessee, on March 1, 2006, at the age of 72. He died from a disease called ALS.
