The blast hurt his face, chest, and eye. He also lost his thumb and index finger on his right hand. Lloyd was very brave after this hard time. He used a special prosthetic glove to hide the injury. This allowed him to keep acting in his movies. He eventually became the highest-paid film performer of the 1920s.

Lloyd also had to learn how to act in "talkies." These were movies that used recorded sound. In 1929, he remade his film Welcome Danger to include voices.
