Hans Geiger was a German scientist. He studied how the world works. He was born in 1882.

Geiger did many big studies. He worked with Ernest Rutherford. Together, they did the gold foil experiment. This study helped find the atomic nucleus. The nucleus is the center of an atom.

Geiger also made a new tool. He worked with Walther Müller to make it. They made the Geiger–Müller tube. This tube finds tiny bits of radiation. Radiation is a type of energy. This tube is the basis for the Geiger counter. People use that tool to find hidden energy.

Geiger studied many things. He looked at cosmic rays. These are rays that come from space. He also studied how atoms split apart. This is called nuclear fission.

He won the Hughes Medal in 1929. This was for his great work. Geiger lived through a hard time called World War II. He died in 1945. His work still helps us today.
