This part is called the gynoecium. It makes the seeds for new plants.

Hippeastrum-1

It can have one part or many parts. Some parts are joined together.

One part is the ovary. It sits at the bottom. This part holds the tiny seeds.

Above the ovary is a thin stalk. This stalk is called a style. At the very top is the stigma. The stigma is often sticky. It catches pollen from other flowers.

After the pollen arrives, the seeds grow. The flower part then turns into fruit.
