Gustav changed the government through a sudden move. This was called a coup d'état. In 1772, he took control from the government. This event was known as the Swedish Revolution. He wanted to bring back royal power. Later, he passed the Union and Security Act of 1789. This law took away powers from the Riksdag. The Riksdag was the group that made laws. This act helped make the government open to all citizens.
