Endara was a very smart student. He studied law in Panama and New York. He later became a lawyer. He also served in the National Assembly.

In 1989, Endara ran for president. He wanted to stop the military rule of Manuel Noriega. Many people saw that Endara won the election. However, the government said the results did not count. A group called the Dignity Battalions attacked Endara and his team in the streets. This attack was shown on news around the world.

Seven months later, the United States invaded Panama. Endara became president on the first night of the invasion. He was sworn in at a U.S. military base. During his time as leader, he made big changes. He ended the Panamanian military. He turned the army into a national police force. This helped bring back democratic rules. His time as president saw the economy grow. But many people still could not find jobs. Endara died in 2009. He was 73 years old.
