In 1921, Grunya moved to Moscow. She started a special school for children. The school was a safe place for kids. Many of these children had no other family. Grunya watched the students very closely. She looked at how they moved and acted.

She wrote about many different children. One boy was a great violinist. Another boy had a very good memory for numbers. She also studied how autism looks in girls. This was very important work.

Grunya thought autism might be linked to the brain. She pointed to parts like the cerebellum. She also named the frontal lobe and basal ganglia. Modern tools have since shown she was right. Grunya wrote over 150 papers in her life. She also wrote many textbooks. Her work helps doctors understand children today.
