Group Home is an American hip hop duo. The group consists of two rappers from Brooklyn, New York. One member is Lil' Dap, whose birth name is James Heath. He was born on March 6, 1972. The other member is Melachi the Nutcracker, born Jamal Felder. He was born on October 5, 1972. They are recognized as part of the hardcore hip hop genre. The duo gained significant prominence through their connection to the Gang Starr Foundation. This musical collective helped launch their careers in the early 1990s.

The group's rise began with specific collaborations. Lil' Dap made his rhyming debut on the 1992 Gang Starr album, Daily Operation. He performed on the track titled "I'm the Man." Later, both members of Group Home appeared on the 1994 album Hard to Earn. This album received critical acclaim. The duo contributed to two specific tracks on that record. These songs were "Speak Ya Clout" and "Words from the Nutcracker." These early appearances established their presence in the hip hop scene.

In 1995, the duo released their debut studio album, Livin' Proof. It was released on November 21, 1995. The album was available on CD, LP, cassette, and digital download. It was released under the labels Payday, FFRR, and PolyGram. The album received very positive reviews from critics. Much of this success was due to the production by DJ Premier. Allmusic described his production work as "rhythmic masterpieces." The album reached number 34 on the US R&B charts.

The group continued their work with a second studio album. This album was titled A Tear for the Ghetto. It was released on June 1, 1999, under the Replay label. Unlike their first album, this release featured only one track produced by DJ Premier. The duo also released several other studio albums over the years. These include Where Back in 2008 and Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal in 2010. They also released the album Forever on February 28, 2017.

Both members have pursued individual musical paths. Lil' Dap operates as an independent artist. He released a solo single titled "Brooklyn Zone" in 2001. In 2008, he released a solo album called I.A.Dap. He also released an EP, or extended play, titled Code Of Silence in 2014. These solo works allow the members to express their individual styles. They continue to contribute to the broader hip hop landscape through these separate projects.

Group Home has performed for audiences around the world. In 1996, they toured London in the United Kingdom. During this tour, they performed with the groups Cypress Hill and Brotherhood. In 2008, they appeared at the Highline Ballroom in New York City. They also participated in international music festivals later in their career. In 2017, they performed at the OUT4FAME Festival in Germany. That same year, they played at the Royal Arena Festival in the UK.

The group's history is closely linked to the Gang Starr Foundation. This connection led to a notable reunion in 2019. They reunited with Gang Starr for a song titled "What's Real." This track featured the artist Royce da 5'9. It appeared on the album One of the Best Yet. This reunion highlights the lasting impact of their early collaborations. Their career shows how musical groups can evolve through solo work and collective reunions.
