Gradient theorem

math Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Imagine you move from one spot to another. You might take a long, curvy path. Or you might go in a straight line. In some cases, the path does not matter. Only the start and end spots matter. This is a special math idea.

This idea helps us measure work. Work is what happens when a force moves something. If the force is special, the path is not important. We only look at where we began. We only look at where we ended.

This rule works for many things. It works for shapes in a flat plane. It also works in big, wide spaces. It even works for electric forces. It is a very powerful tool for math and science.
