This paint is very thick. It is opaque, which means it hides what is underneath. This is different from watercolor. Watercolor is thin and clear. Gouache can also use white chalk to make it heavy. This helps it reflect light.

Artists have used gouache for a long time. People in Ancient Egypt used it. Artists also used it for old books in India and Persia. In the 1900s, artists used it for animation. They used it to make bright colors on clear sheets. Today, many people use it for posters and comics. It dries fast because the water goes away quickly. This makes it great for quick work. Some artists even use an airbrush to spray it. You can use it on many things. Some artists have even painted on cardboard.
