The Portuguese came to Goa. They wanted to spread their faith. They set up a group called the Inquisition.

This group made sure people followed one way. They looked for people with other ideas. They even burned books in many languages. This was done to stop other teachings. Many people left Goa to stay safe. This group ended in the year 1812.
