It is in plants, animals, and even some tiny bugs. It is made of three small parts. These parts are called amino acids. The three parts are glutamate, cysteine, and glycine.

This helper works as an antioxidant. An antioxidant is something that stops damage to cells. It protects cells from bad things like heavy metals. It also fights free radicals. These are tiny things that can hurt a cell.

Your body makes its own glutathione. Your liver is a very important place for this. In a study, mice without this helper died quickly. Most of the glutathione stays inside the cell. It is much stronger inside the cell than outside.

Glutathione has two different states. It can be in a reduced state. This is its active form. It can also be in an oxidized state. This happens after it helps a cell. It can change back to the active form. This helps the cell stay healthy and strong.

Scientists even use it to help fight cancer. They make tiny gels that hold medicine. These gels break apart when they touch glutathione. This lets the medicine go right into the bad cells.
