Glíma is a special sport from Iceland. The word means wrestling. It can also mean a struggle.

In the most common style, people use a belt to wrestle. This is called trouser-grip glíma. It is the national sport of Iceland. Wrestlers wear a belt around their waist. They also wear belts on their thighs. They grab these belts to move each other. This style uses smart moves rather than big strength.

There are rules to keep the sport fair. The wrestlers must always stand up straight. They step in a circle around each other. This is called stígandi. It keeps the match moving. They do not push with force. They want to make the other person fall gracefully.

Glíma also has a code of honor. It is called drengskapur. This means being fair and kind. Wrestlers must care about the safety of their partners. There are other ways to wrestle, too. Backhold wrestling uses more strength. Loose-grip wrestling is more aggressive. Some people use it for self-defense. But most people play to show skill and respect.
