Giovanni did many big jobs. He was the chief architect for the Siena Cathedral. He also made statues for the Baptistry in Pisa. His best work is a large pulpit in Pisa. A pulpit is a raised stand in a church. This pulpit is made of white marble. It has nine scenes carved into it. These scenes show stories from the New Testament. The carvings use light and dark to look real. This effect is called chiaroscuro. He even carved a statue of Hercules. Giovanni taught many other artists. His work still inspires people today.
