Kanafani's writing style was very clear and direct. He used a modern way to tell stories by using flashbacks. He also used many different narrative voices to tell a single tale. This was a new step forward for Arabic fiction at the time. He wrote about the hard choices that Palestinians had to face. He even used the term "resistance literature" to describe Palestinian writing. His books showed how people struggle to find their way in a difficult world.

Kanafani was born in Acre in 1936 to a middle-class family. His father was a lawyer who worked for the Palestinian nationalist movement. During the 1948 war, his family had to leave their home. They moved to Damascus, Syria, where they lived as refugees. As a young teacher, he wrote stories to help his students. He wanted his students to see their own lives in his books. This helped them understand their own situation through his words.

He moved to many different places like Kuwait and Beirut. In 1961, he married Anni Høver, who worked for children's rights. Kanafani worked as an editor for many different newspapers and magazines. One of his most famous books is called *Men in the Sun*. This novel was published in 1962 and received great praise. It tells a story about three people trying to cross a border. They hide in a large water tank on a truck to stay hidden.

Kanafani was also a spokesperson for a group called the PFLP. He helped write their official program in 1969. This work changed how the group approached their struggle. In 1972, Kanafani and his 17-year-old niece, Lamees, were killed in Beirut. A bomb was placed in his car by the Mossad. This event happened during a time of great political tension. His death did not stop the impact of his many writings.
