To be a great luger, you need more than just speed. Hackl was very good at setting up his sled. He could change his equipment to fit the ice. Every day the ice feels different. He knew how to make his sled work for those specific conditions. His coach, Thomas Schwab, said his mental strength was very important. This helped him stay calm during hard races. He worked hard to be the best at his craft.

Georg Hackl was born in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, in 1966. He first learned how to luge at school. He practiced sliding on the Königssee track during physical education lessons. He grew up to be a great rival to Markus Prock. Prock was very good in World Cup races. However, Hackl was very successful at the Winter Olympics. He spent many years training to become a champion.

Hackl won many important medals during his career. He won his first Olympic medal in 1988 in Calgary. He took second place in singles and fourth in doubles. Then, he won gold medals in 1994 and 1998. In 1998, he was the first man to win gold by being the fastest in all four runs. He also won a silver medal in 2002. This made him the first person to win medals in five straight Winter Olympics.
