Gaspard Monge was a famous mathematician from France. He was born in 1746. He loved to study shapes and how they work. Monge is known for inventing descriptive geometry. This is a way to use drawings to show 3D shapes. This method helped people make very good technical drawings.

He used his math skills to help the military. He worked on ways to make forts safer. He looked for safe spots where soldiers could hide from gunfire. Before Monge, people used long math sums to find these spots. These sums could take a whole week to finish. Monge found a way to use drawings instead. His way only took two days. This was a huge help for engineers.

Monge also helped start important schools in France. One was the École Polytechnique. He was a professor there. He even served as a leader for the French Navy. His ideas were so important that his name is on the Eiffel Tower. He died in 1818.
