Ganja has also been a center for commerce and art. The city's history as a mint is shown through various historical coins. These artifacts prove the city was an important economic hub under different rulers. Ganja is also famous as the birthplace of the renowned Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi.
Today, Ganja is a mix of historical sites and modern urban development. The city is divided into two administrative districts: Kapaz and Nizami.
