The Aztecs fought special wars called flower wars. These wars happened for many years near Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan was the big capital city of the Aztecs.

These wars were not like normal wars. In a normal war, soldiers used weapons to throw from far away. In a flower war, they fought up close. They used a weapon called a macuahuitl. This tool required great skill to use.

Why did the Aztecs fight this way? Some people say it was for religion. They wanted to capture people for sacrifice to please their gods. They believed this kept the world in balance.

Other experts have different ideas. They think these wars were for practice. They helped warriors show how strong they were. Flower wars also helped the Aztecs show their power to others. This could make enemies afraid.

These wars used fewer soldiers than regular wars. Many of the fighters were nobles. This allowed the Aztecs to fight even during farming time. They used these battles to keep their enemies weak.
