She was a star in the early days of silent films. In the beginning, actors did not get credit by name. People only knew the name of the film company. Turner changed this. She became known as the "Vitagraph Girl." She was the most popular actress in America for a time. By 1910, her studio began to use her real name. This helped her become a true star.

Turner did more than just act. She wrote stories for the screen. She also directed her own movies. One of her films was a comedy called Daisy Doodad's Dial.

She even started her own company named Turner Films. She made over thirty short films there.

Later, she moved to England. She worked in music halls and made movies in London. During World War I, she performed for soldiers. Turner acted in more than 160 motion pictures. She worked in movies for many years. She even had small roles in the 1930s. She lived in a community for film workers in California until she died.
