They live in the Indian and Pacific oceans. Some live in the Yangtze River in China. There are three types of finless porpoise. One type lives in the Yangtze River basin. Another lives from the Persian Gulf to Indonesia.

The last type lives near Japan and Taiwan.

These animals have a unique look. Most porpoises have a fin on their back. Finless porpoises do not have a true dorsal fin. A dorsal fin is the fin on a back. Instead, they have a low ridge. This ridge has thick skin and tiny bumps. Their foreheads are also very steep. They have fewer teeth than other porpoises. They have 15 to 21 teeth in each jaw.

Baby porpoises grow for about six months.

At that age, they stop drinking milk. We call this weaning. Calves eat small fish and cephalopods. Cephalopods are animals like squid. Their diet can change with the seasons.
