It focuses on business and economic news rather than general stories. Many people use it to understand how money and markets work. It is known as a newspaper of record. This means it is a trusted source for important facts. The paper is easy to recognize because of its light-orange color.

This color is often called salmon. It helps the paper stand out from others.

The paper has a very interesting way of working. In 1893, it began using pink paper to stay different from a rival. This color came from special clay found in Cornwall. Today, the paper is dyed specially to keep that look. The newspaper also helps track how businesses are doing. It publishes financial indices, which are lists used to measure markets.

One example is the FTSE All-Share Index. It provides deep coverage for people who work in finance.

The history of the paper started a long time ago. It was founded in January 1888 as the London Financial Guide. James Sheridan and his brother helped start it. They wanted to report on business in the city. A month later, they changed the name to the Financial Times.

For many years, it competed with a paper called the Financial News. In 1945, Brendan Bracken led a merger between the two. This created one large and strong business newspaper.

Many people have helped the paper grow over the years. In 1949, an editor named Gordon Newton changed how they hired staff. He began recruiting new graduates from universities to be journalists. This helped the paper build a very strong team. In 1957, a company called Pearson bought the paper. Later, in July 2015, Pearson sold it to a Japanese company named Nikkei.

This shows how much technology has changed how we read. The paper continues to share news with people all over the world.
