Fin whales are very fast. People call them the "greyhounds of the sea." They can swim at high speeds. They eat small fish, squid, and krill. Krill are tiny sea creatures.

These whales live in many oceans. They like cool and temperate waters. They often swim in pods. A pod is a group of animals. Most groups have 6 to 10 whales.

Fin whales make loud sounds. They use these sounds to talk. The sounds are very low. They are called infrasonic pulses. These sounds can travel for hundreds of miles. This helps them find each other.

In the past, many whales were hunted. This made their numbers go down. Today, we study them to help them grow. They can live for many years. Some have lived over 100 years.
