Felix Klein was a famous German mathematician who loved finding connections.

He was born in Düsseldorf on April 25, 1849. His father worked as a secretary for the government. Klein studied math and physics at the University of Bonn. He worked as an assistant to Julius Plücker. Later, Klein helped finish a book about geometry for Plücker. This work helped him meet other important mathematicians. He traveled to places like Berlin and Paris to learn more.

Klein is very famous for his work with shapes and symmetry.

In 1872, he created the Erlangen program. This was a big plan to organize different kinds of geometry. He used group theory to help explain these shapes. A group is a set of rules for how things change. He showed that geometry is about what stays the same during a change. This idea helped people understand many different types of space. It changed how mathematicians think about the world today.

One of his most famous ideas is a very strange shape.

It is called a Klein bottle. This shape is very unusual because it only has one side. It is hard to build in our three-dimensional world. You can try to make one by joining two Möbius strips together. In higher dimensions, the shape can exist more easily. This discovery showed how math can describe things we cannot easily see. It remains a fun puzzle for many students.

Klein was also a great leader for other scientists. He worked at many places like Erlangen and Munich. He spent a long time at the University of Göttingen. He wanted to make it the best place for math research. He started new classes and built a great library. He even helped more women study math at the university. He supervised Grace Chisholm Young, who wrote the first math thesis by a woman there. He also helped run a famous math journal.

Klein cared deeply about how people learn math in school. Around 1900, he began looking at school lessons. He suggested new ways to teach geometry and calculus. These ideas were used in many countries around the world. In 1908, he became a leader for math teachers in Rome. He wanted math to be taught better to everyone. Klein died in Göttingen in 1925. His life showed that math is about curiosity and sharing ideas.
