He served as the Prime Minister for many years. He was the longest-serving democratically elected leader in Spanish history. This means he led the country through a time of great change. He helped move Spain from a dictatorship to a democracy. People looked to him to help build a modern nation. His work changed how many people lived their daily lives.

His journey began in a place called Bellavista in Seville. His father was a small dairy farmer. Felipe studied law at the University of Seville. During this time, Spain was ruled by a dictator named Franco. Because of this, many political groups were not allowed to exist. Felipe joined a group called the PSOE. He worked in secret to help his party. This was a hard and risky job to do. He even used a fake name to stay safe.

In 1982, Felipe won a major election. He became the leader of the government.

He won four elections in a row. He stayed in office until 1996. During his time, he made many big changes. He helped build new highways and airports. He also helped create high-speed trains. He wanted to make sure the country had modern ways to travel.

Felipe also worked hard to help people in their daily lives. He helped build more schools for children. He raised the age for leaving school from 14 to 16. He also helped start a national health service. This meant more people could see a doctor. He helped create better rules for workers. For example, he introduced a 40-hour workweek. He also made sure people had more paid holidays.

Felipe helped Spain connect with the rest of the world. In 1986, Spain joined the European Economic Community. This is a group of European countries that work together.
