Long ago, muftis helped many people. They gave advice to judges in court. They also helped people with daily life. Some muftis were very famous. Others lived in small towns.

People can ask about many things. They might ask about special prayers. They might ask about money too. A mufti can give a short answer. Sometimes the answer is a whole book.

Muftis used to have other jobs. They might copy books or trade goods. They usually did not charge money for help. This helped them stay fair.

Today, fatwas are still very important. They help people follow their faith. It is a way to find answers.
