These items help finish a look. They can show your personality. People use them to express who they are.

There are two main types. Some items are carried. These include handbags, fans, and umbrellas. Others are worn on the body.

You might wear a hat, a belt, or a ring. A watch is a worn accessory. But shoes are not accessories. They are called wear for the foot.

Your choices often depend on where you go. You might pick different items for work or play. Your culture or money can also change your choice.

In the past, accessories had deep meaning. In the 16th century, men in Italy wore hat badges. These were small metal items for hats. They showed a person's high status. Some women in the Victorian era wore gloves. They used them to hide signs of hard work. Women also wore slide bracelets. These became popular after the wrist watch was made.

Accessories have been part of life for a long time.
