Scientists study many types of matter. Most matter is normal. But some things are very strange. These are called exotic matter.

Some exotic matter might not exist yet. These are called hypothetical particles. One idea is negative mass. This mass would act in a weird way. It would move opposite to a push.

Another idea is the tachyon. A tachyon is a particle with imaginary mass. If they exist, they would travel faster than light. Some thinkers say they could send messages back in time. But most scientists think they do not exist. They might not be able to touch normal matter.

Other matter is real but rare. High pressure can change how things act. This can happen deep in the ocean. It can also happen inside a planet.

For example, salt can change under high pressure. It can turn into new compounds. One new form is a metal. It has layers of salt and sodium. These layers can carry electricity. These new materials might be very useful.
