These areas help people keep their own culture and language.

People in these areas often help each other. They use migrant networks to share useful things. These networks share news about jobs and cheap homes. This help is called social capital. It makes it easier for new people to move to a new land.

Some enclaves are very successful. They can grow to meet the needs of the whole city. But staying in an enclave can also be hard. Some people might not learn new skills from the larger world. This can make it harder to find new jobs later.

Many places are known for this. New York City has a large Chinatown. New Jersey has Koreatown and India Square.
