Ethernet is a way for computers to talk to each other.

It uses wires to send data through networks. These networks can be small, like in a home. They can also be very large.

When a computer sends data, it breaks it into small pieces. We call these pieces frames. Each frame has a source address and a destination address. This tells the frame where to go. Frames also have error-checking data. This helps the system find and fix broken pieces.

In the past, Ethernet used thick cables. Later, people used thinner cables that were easy to bend.

Today, many systems use fiber optic links or twisted pair wires.

Ethernet started in the 1970s at Xerox PARC. Robert Metcalfe and David Boggs helped create it. They used a method called CSMA/CD. This helps computers decide when to send data so they do not crash into each other.

Ethernet is very important. It helps carry the traffic that makes up the Internet.
