Making the movie was hard work. It took many years to finish. Lynch often ran out of money. Friends gave him money to help. Even Lynch delivered newspapers to pay for it. The sounds in the movie are very special. Lynch spent a whole year working on the sound. He used many layers of noise at once. Some sounds were made by blowing air into a bottle in a tub. People call this a cult film. This means a small group of fans loves it very much. It is now kept in a special place in the United States. This is to save it for the future.
