Energy demand management

technology Maturity 13-18 Next article →

People use a lot of power for many things. Sometimes, everyone uses it at once. We call this peak demand. This can put a lot of stress on power lines.

Energy demand management is a way to help. It is also called demand-side management. The goal is to change how people use power. We can do this through education. We can also use money to help. For example, power might cost less at night. This encourages people to use power during off-peak times.

There are different ways to do this. One way is energy efficiency. This means using better tools like new washing machines. These tools use less power to do the same job. Another way is demand response. This means changing when we use power.

New technology helps a lot now. We use smart grids to manage power. A smart grid is a system that uses computers to balance power. This helps us use more wind and solar power. These sources can change quickly. Smart grids help keep the power steady. We can even use electric cars to help. This is called vehicle-to-grid technology. It lets people sell power back to the grid.
