Dubai is the most crowded emirate in the UAE. The Al Maktoum family has ruled here since 1833. The ruler of Dubai also helps lead the whole UAE. The area is split into nine sectors. Some sectors are busy cities. Others are more rural or quiet. One part, called Hatta, sits far inland. It is about 134 km east of the main city.

In the past, people found wealth through pearls. This business was very big in the 1800s. Later, people found oil in the ground. This happened in 1966 at the Fateh oil field. This helped the economy grow much more.

Today, many people live and work in Dubai. The Dubai Police force keeps the area safe. They even use exotic cars to do their jobs.
