Ancient Egyptians used many stories to understand their world. These stories are called myths. They were about the actions of gods.

The myths helped people explain things like the sun and the Nile river. The sun rose and set every day. The Nile flooded every year to help crops grow. These natural cycles were very important.

The Egyptians believed in a sense of order called maat. They thought the gods helped keep the world in order. Some myths tell how the gods made the universe. Other stories talk about the sun god, Ra. They also tell the story of Osiris, Isis, and Horus.

These stories were not always the same. Different texts might tell a myth in a new way. Some stories even seemed to disagree. This happened because ideas changed over time. Myths were also found in art and in many books. They helped the people feel close to the gods. Even the pharaohs used these ideas to lead the land.
