A king named Akhenaten changed how Egypt worshipped. He made the Aten the only state god. This way of belief is called Atenism. Akhenaten moved his people to a new city. He called this city Akhetaten.

Artists showed the Aten in a unique way. It was a sun disk with rays. These rays ended in tiny human hands. The hands gave life to the world.

Temples for the Aten were very different. Most Egyptian temples had roofs. But Aten temples were open to the sky. This let the sun shine inside.

People gave gifts like fruit and flowers to the sun.

This period did not last long. After Akhenaten died, a king named Tutankhamun took over. He brought back the old gods. The worship of the Aten ended soon after.
