Edna Woolman Chase was a very important leader in fashion. She was the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine for many years. This title means she was the top person in charge.

She held this big job from 1914 until 1952. Her work helped change how people saw clothing. She also helped the fashion world in the United States grow. Edna made sure that fashion was something people could understand and enjoy.

Edna worked her way up at the magazine step by step. She started her first job in the mail room. Later, she worked in the art and make-up departments.

During World War I, something big changed for fashion. Most of the clothes in Vogue came from Paris. However, the clothing makers in Paris had to close their rooms.

Edna decided to take matters into her own hands. She called dressmakers in New York to make new clothes. She organized the very first fashion show to show these clothes. This helped American makers start selling clothes at moderate prices.

Edna also helped create a special group for women. In 1928, she brought 17 prominent women together.

They formed the Fashion Group International to help the industry. This group helped show off American fashion to the world. It also highlighted the role of women in fashion. This group became an official organization in 1930. The Fashion Group International is still in business today.
