Every system must solve four big problems. First, it decides what to make and how much. Second, it decides how to make those things. Some use many workers. Others use big machines. Third, it decides how to share the goods. This makes sure people get what they need. Fourth, it decides when to make things. This helps when things change with the seasons.

There are many ways to run a system. In capitalism, private people own the tools and businesses. They use a market to buy and sell. In socialism, the community or the state owns the tools. Some systems use a plan to meet needs. Others use a market to make a profit. Many places use a mixed economy. This uses both markets and government help.
