Long ago, one big church split into two.

This was called the Great Schism.

One group became the Catholic Church. The other became the Orthodox Church. They had many different ideas.

They disagreed about how to lead. They also disagreed about some rules. They even used different types of bread.

Leaders from each side got very angry. They even kicked each other out of the church. This made the split very deep.

They have tried to be friends again. In 1965, they said they were sorry. But they are still two separate groups today.
