E. F. Schumacher was a thinker who studied money and work.

He was born in Germany in 1911. Later, he moved to England. During World War II, he was kept on a farm. While there, he wrote a paper about money. A famous expert named John Maynard Keynes read it. Keynes helped Schumacher get a job at Oxford University.

Schumacher worked for a large coal group for many years. He believed that using coal was better than using oil. He worried that oil would run out one day. He also thought that big groups are hard to run. He believed small groups work much better.

He traveled to many countries. He saw that local people needed tools they could use easily. He called this "appropriate technology." This means tools that fit a local area. He wrote a famous book called "Small Is Beautiful."

The book says that we must care for our natural world. His ideas still help people today.
