Drip coffee is made by pouring hot water over ground beans.

The water seeps through the grounds and a filter. It picks up flavors as it flows. Then, the liquid drips into a pot or carafe.

Some people use paper filters. These make the coffee taste clear and light. Paper filters can also trap some oils. Other people use metal or ceramic filters. These let more oils stay in the drink.

Many ways to make drip coffee exist. Some people use a manual pour-over method. This lets the maker have great control. They might start with a step called blooming. This is when they wet the grounds first. It lets out gas bubbles to help the taste.
