Its name comes from the Spanish word for golden. This refers to a fish called the mahi-mahi. Some people also call it a swordfish.

Dorado holds a large part of the Large Magellanic Cloud. This is a small galaxy near our own Milky Way. It is 25,000 light-years wide. It has over 10,000 million stars inside it.

This galaxy is being pulled by the Milky Way.

Many interesting things live in Dorado. There is a bright star named Alpha Doradus. It is 176 light-years from Earth. Another star, Beta Doradus, is a variable star. A variable star is a star that changes in brightness. Beta Doradus changes over about nine days.

You can also find the Tarantula Nebula here. It is named for its spiderlike shape. It is 1,000 light-years wide. This makes it larger than any nebula in our galaxy. In 2020, scientists found a new planet there. We call this exoplanet TOI-700 d. It might be like Earth.
