In government, leaders use systems of checks and balances. This means they watch each other. This helps make sure everyone follows the rules. In business, boards of directors check on managers. They do this to protect the people who own the company. If they do not check, big problems can happen.

Computer science uses distrust too. Different parts of a computer system do not just trust each other. They must ask for proof. This helps stop errors from spreading.

Scientists also study how our bodies react to distrust. In one study, men and women reacted differently. A hormone called DHT was linked to distrust in men.

Distrust can also help people do better work. It helps in high-risk jobs like flying planes or surgery. It helps people avoid big mistakes. In new businesses, being careful helps a company stay open. Leaders who do not assume everything is perfect often survive longer. They watch for risks and plan more carefully.
