Members make special computer programs called demos. These demos show off music and art. They also show off coding skills.

Demos started in the early 1980s. At first, people added small screens to games. These screens gave credit to the people who changed the game code. Soon, these screens grew into full shows. People began making demos that were not part of games.

Artists often work in small groups. A group usually has a coder, a musician, and a graphician, which is an artist.

They use handles, or fake names, to talk to each other. This helps them express themselves.

Groups often enter competitions called compos. Some contests have strict rules about size. For example, a 4K intro must be very small. It can only use 4096 bytes of space. This is a big challenge for the artists.

Artists meet at demoparties to show their work.
